can now file General Diaries (GDs) online without the need to visit a police station, thanks to a new initiative launched by the Cox's Bazar District Police. Starting from Friday, May 16, citizens can easily and securely submit all types of GDs through the “Online GD Platform.”
According to Additional Superintendent of Police and Media Focal Point Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, this digital service enhances citizen convenience, public safety, and access to legal resources. Initially introduced in CMP and across all districts within the Chattogram Range, the service allows users to register complaints via the "Online GD" mobile app, available on the Play Store. Registration requires a mobile number and National ID (NID). Users must provide details about the incident, including location, date, description, supporting documents or photos, and select the relevant police station. After submission, a tracking number will be sent via SMS.
The benefits of this initiative include 24/7 access, time and cost savings, digital tracking of GD status, and improved privacy and security. Citizens can file GDs for lost items (such as mobiles, NIDs, or passports), threats, suspicious persons or activities, and reports for missing women or girls.
Police may reach out to the complainant for follow-up. It is important to note that an online GD is not a formal FIR or legal case. Police officials have expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for selecting Cox's Bazar for the pilot phase, emphasising that this platform will make police services more accessible, efficient, and hassle-free.
