Tom Cruise receives nearly 5-minute standing ovation at Cannes for ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’

Tom Cruise bid a heartfelt farewell to the Mission: Impossible franchise with a spectacular “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The film garnered a five-minute standing ovation, showcasing Cruise’s daring practical stunts, including a nearly nude knife fight and thrilling underwater sequences. While some audience members experienced fatigue due to the film's lengthy runtime, the premiere was undeniably grand, featuring a 40-piece orchestra and a star-studded attendance.

Director Christopher McQuarrie lauded the cast's unwavering dedication, particularly during the production delays brought on by the pandemic and industry strikes, describing it as a seven-year journey. He also expressed profound gratitude for Cruise, whom he referred to as a childhood hero turned collaborator.

An emotional and thankful Cruise took a moment to express his appreciation to the audience and McQuarrie, conveying his pride in the franchise's 30-year legacy and hinting at potential future collaborations. The film reunites familiar cast members such as Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Bassett, and Hayley Atwell while welcoming newcomers Janet McTeer and Nick Offerman.
