Metro Stations Set to Open Shopping Malls and Banks

Within the next two months, shopping centers are set to open at metro rail stations. These will include shopping malls, super shops, and banking services. The authorities have already announced rental opportunities at the Farmgate and Karwan Bazar stations. There are a total of 17 stations on the MRT Line 6, of which all except Kamalapur are currently operational. While each station generally has two floors, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar are the only ones with three floors.

Now, in addition to traveling by train, passengers will also have the opportunity to shop at the metro stations. Commercial development is progressing on 25,000 square feet of vacant space at the Farmgate and Karwan Bazar stations. Interested businesses can rent shops in these spaces. The lease term is 10 years and is non-renewable. ATM booths have already been set up at the stations. However, the use of gas cylinders or open flames in shops will not be permitted.

Faruk Ahmed, Managing Director of DMTCL, said, "There could be retail shops or even banking or commercial institutions. We hope to start offering rental opportunities within the next two months."

A passenger said, "Let’s say I didn’t have breakfast in the morning. I came here, grabbed a sandwich, or if I had something to buy, I could just do it here. This will be very convenient for everyone. We often need different things. We can buy them from here and go home or to our destination."
