Several newly designed banknotes are set to enter the market shortly before and after Eid. Notably, none of these new notes will feature the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Instead, themes such as the martyrs of the July uprising, youth, the Sundarbans, and various aspects of heritage and culture will be reflected in the new designs.
Reportedly, a 20 Taka note will be released on May 27, featuring images of Kantajew Temple and a Buddhist temple. A 50 Taka note, showcasing artist Zainul Abedin’s famine painting and the Atia Mosque, is expected to be launched on May 29 or 30. Meanwhile, a 1000 Taka note featuring the Bangabhaban and the National Martyrs’ Memorial is scheduled for release on June 2. Due to delays in paper supply from Europe, the 5 Taka note featuring portraits of Abu Sayeed and Mughda will be released after Eid.
Regarding this, Arif Hossain Khan, spokesperson and executive director of Bangladesh Bank, said, “The designs for the new banknotes have already been finalized. The paper has been sourced. Printing of several notes, including the 1000 Taka note, has started. This time, no banknote will feature a complete image of a person. However, themes like the martyrs of the July uprising, youth, the Sundarbans, and elements of tradition and culture will be present in the designs. I also believe a few new notes will come before Eid.”
A Bangladesh Bank official informed that the 5 Taka note will carry images of Abu Sayed and Mughdo's, while the 10 Taka note will feature symbols of youth unity and the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. The 100 Taka note will depict a UNESCO-recognized image of a chital deer and tiger from the Sundarbans, symbolizing the transformation after the former government’s exit. The 200 Taka note will portray religious diversity with images of a mosque, temple, church, and pagoda. The 500 Taka note will feature a picture of the historic Ahsan Manzil.
