Bangladeshi Short Film ‘Ali’ Makes History with Country’s First-Ever Cannes Award

Bangladeshi short film Ali has secured the nation’s first-ever award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film was honored with a Special Jury Mention, marking a significant breakthrough for Bangladeshi cinema on the international stage.


Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Cultural Ministry Adviser to the Interim Government, announced the achievement on social media. He wrote, “Congratulations Adnan Al Rajeev and team Ali for winning special jury mention at Cannes! Very very proud of you all.”


Popular actress Mehzabien Chowdhury also celebrated the win, posting, “Bangladesh just got its first award from Cannes!!! Congrats Adnan Al Rajeev and Team ALI!!!!”


Directed by Adnan Al Rajeev, Ali’s recognition at Cannes stands as a proud milestone and a source of inspiration for aspiring filmmakers and artists across Bangladesh.
