Robi Axiata PLC has officially launched its much-awaited 5G network service in Bangladesh, strengthening its position as a digital pioneer and supporting the nation’s digital vision. The announcement was made at a launching program held at the company’s corporate office today, attended by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad ul Bari, and Robi’s Acting CEO and CFO, M. Riyaaz Rasheed.
On the first day of commercial launch, 5G service has been activated at several key locations including MBA Building, Dhaka University, Moghbazar Chourasta, and Fakirapool in Dhaka; WASA Mor, Khulshi, and Katalganj R/A in Chattogram; and Shagordeghir Par in Sylhet. Robi said the network will gradually expand to more areas. Customers with 5G-supported devices in these locations can already experience the service, though coverage remains limited due to the scarcity of 5G-enabled handsets in the market.
